Just recovering...
Wow, that was a great night of blogging last night, even if the Rays did manage to lose. If you haven't done so yet (and why not?) go and check out Cyn's live blog on Red Sox Chick. I think she managed to stay far more composed than I did!
Even with the loss though, I couldn't help but be impressed with the fight that the Rays are showing. Even at Fenway, against an in-form Red Sox team, we were so close to tying it up - or even taking the lead again - in the ninth. It took a fantastic (and brave) play by Adam Stern to rob Damon Hollins of a hit to make the final out. If he misses that play, 3 runs score, and Hollins has a shot at an inside-the-park grand slam. Fair play Adam Stern. You stepped up big there!
All the late inning fun overshadowed slightly what had been a great pitching duel earlier on. Matt Clement was on form for the Sox, and Casey Fossum turned in his best performance of the season so far - 6 1/3 IP, 6 hits and 2 ER. Again though, it was the bullpen who struggled - although Chad Orvella cme within a whisker of stopping the Sox taking the lead - getting two great outs after inheriting a 2-on nobody out situation. Unfortunately, as is the way for the Rays, Kevin Youkilis smashed a 2-run double, and there was not quite any way back from there.
Doug Waecther is starting tonight for the Rays and is going up against Curt Schilling - a real big test for Doug, and hopefully one that he will step up to.
