CC, Joey G, and Cowbells
I just read this stat about Carl Crawford, and I think it is probably the best I've seen to help explain why I like watching him play so much. His triple on Sunday was his 50th career 3-bagger, and only 17 other players ever have got to that mark before they turned 25 - none since 1979. But the real killer is this - of all players with at least 50 career triples, only 9 can beat Carl's average of one every 10.7 games. And all of those players retired before 1936. CC is a speed demon.
And Joey Gathright is even faster. But that is not why I mention him. For tonight could be the first time he comes up against Julian Tavarez following their 'incident' in Spring Training. I was going to say since Tavarez puched him, but lets be honest - it was a slap. Hopefully it'll be a calm series with the BoSox - although there just always seems to be something going off when the Rays play Boston.
Finally, I see that the Rays are developing their own version of the famous Anaheim 'Rally Monkey', in the form of... yes you've got it - the cowbell. Apparently Stuart Sternberg loves this clip from Saturday Night Live - More Cowbell. Seems to have gotten the Trop going too. So, always being someone willing to jump on a bandwagon, I'm going to say in preparation for tonight's game:
I've just gotta have more COWBELL...
